Kovacs

Kovacs is a Berserker warrior dedicated to the Wallister cause. The baker's career and life are on hold while he seeks to murder his Gilgastani father, fighting in the Wallister Resistance while looking for leads.

Background

Kovacs' earliest memory is living with his mother above a bakery owned by a kindly old master baker in a decent sized Wallister town. He and his mother worked in the bakery, and baking with his mother and the old man are his happiest memories. He grew into a hulking young man, but had the reputation for being a gentle giant. As he grew older, he fell in love with the miller's daughter.

He never asked about his father or mother's past, but he once tried to open an ornate chest in the cellar, but the old man told him it was too dangerous and never to touch it again.

The Discovery

One day after picking herbs in the country side, he returned to the bakery to find his mother and the miller's daughter dead on the floor. The baker was being beaten by Gilgastani assassins who demand to know where the young man is. He rushed to the basement and opens the forbidden chest to find a massive two handed flail in it. He tool it and for the first time in his life exploded into Berserker rage. The flail brutally smashed the evil doers.

Kneeling besides the dying baker, he tells Kovacs the truth, his mother was a Bakram noble woman who had been kidnapped by secret agents of the Gilgastanis in the hopes of extracting knowledge of a secret passage that her family guarded. When she refused after torture, a Gilgastani warrior of a powerful clan freed her and ran away, claiming he felt sorry for the injustice done to her. They secretly settled in a small Wallister village where they were married and had Kovacs. When Kovacs was two, his mother finally told his father the secret of the passage.

The next day he fled back to Balbatos with the secret knowledge. Heart broken, Kovacs' mother fled to a town where she found a kindly baker who took the two of them in, she changed her name and hid, too ashamed to return to her family.

The baker told Kovacs' that his father is Wallach Argrave, his mother was Lady Galdua, but Kovacs cannot understand Galdua's last name when the baker says it. The man muttered that Kovacs is not his true name, but before he can say anything coughs. He clasped Kovacs hand suddenly, said his mother just wanted him to bake, not be a berserker like his dastardly father. But the baker first asked him to use his father's rage and mace to get vengeance. Then the old man died.

Kovacs buried the dead, well the three he cared about. He dumped the brutes into the street. Kovacs rushed off determined to find and kill his father.

The Seeking

He went searching for his father, and in the process began to fighting against brigands and anyone who angered him. As he went into towns, he'd ask around about his father and check out the finest bakers. Despite the fighting, he kept his dreams of settling down as a baker alive. After years of searching, fighting, and baking he identified his father. Wallach Argrave was from a prominent clan, and had become a high ranking Gilgastani officer.

He began the journey to where his father was supposed to live, but just a few weeks in the war started. Kovacs could not get past the invasion forces because it kept making him so angry. He joined the Wallister Resistance on accident, by rushing wildly out of the woods and slaughtering a Gilgastani camp with his mace. Some Wallisters had been about to ambush the camp, so they assumed Kovacs was with them. Every invader he killed made him feel a little better, but still he planned on finding his father when the war ended. Of course he secretly hoped his father would come to him.

With all this raging, his willpower is pretty much gone. He is pretty much a man of pure emotion and instinct at this point wanting to kill his father and any Gilgastani he can.

He has found nothing about his mother's Bakram noble family, mainly because he is afraid to find out that anything about his mother could be bad, even her relatives.
